Open letter to the Federal Government of Germany

According to media reports the Federal Minister of Economics said on March 31st, 2014, in Berlin, that he is sure that US secret services would try to to get Edward Snowden under their control should he be allowed to visit Germany.

In an open letter to chancellor Angela Merkel (in German) civic organizations Wau Holland Stiftung and Reporters without Borders ask for an answer to the following question: why is the Federal Government of Germany unable to guarantee the safety of Edward Snowden in the event of his questioning by the German Parliamentary Committee investigating the NSA spying scandal?

The letter was sent by mail to the Federal Chancellor’s Office on Tuesday. Copies were sent to Federal Minister of the Interior Thomas de Maiziere and to Federal Minister of Economics Sigmar Gabriel.
